So today the temps were in the mid 30's, the sun was out and things are kinda sorta starting to thaw. Its amazing how 30 degrees is warm. I'm able to run around without a jacket. Thats actually really messed up. But not to worry, we have another Lake Effect Snow Storm coming on Wednesday. More cold, wind and snow. Seriously, it is getting old.
So what have I been doing lately? I've become a very sedentary, lazy, couch potato. I sleep in, lay on the couch and nap, eat, do as little as possible and than go back to bed. Some days I am able to find enough energy to get on the bike for 30 minutes. Other days I am so tired I'm only able to take a shower and get the mail, than lay around. I always get like this toward the end of winter. I've been reading up and learning as much as I can about the Appalachian Trail and have started buying equipment. The more I read about it, the more I want to go out and hike the entire trail. But, considering I could only find one person to hike with me for 100 miles, the chances of finding someone to leave civilization for 6 or 7 months are slim. However it is easy to dream about while I'm laying on the couch. Whats a person to do?

Another blizzard...or two...or three
Well, Gaylord has been in a blizzard it seems for the past week. Today it got so bad they closed down the interstate. Which is a big problem, since that is really the only way of getting these flat landers home. Needless to say, I stuck it out and made it far enough to get to a friends house to head down to The Joe for a Red Wing game. Great game, but they lost. It was everything you could ask for, except a couple of extra goals. It was loud, the game was sold out to a great group of fans, and there were even a couple of good fights. Anything you would want out of a game. But, right now I am so damn cold I'm headed to bed to turn on my electric blanket before I get frost bite.

Work....
I've decided that a day of work in the ER is very similar to a bad version of reality TV. At times it is almost like a bad nightmare. I can't believe they pay me to do this work.

Just another day
Okay, so it is still freezing cold up here in Northern Michigan. I am currently sitting on the couch slowly losing feeling in my fingers and toes. I'm almost there. What about the heat? I keep it at a cool 62 degrees so that I can save a few pennies. Cheap bastard that I am. Current wind chill is -20, it is oh so cold. This morning they officially classified Gaylord as having a blizzard. High winds, snow and freezing temperatures are the qualifications. Great driving conditions! Yeah for us!!
On another note, I would like to share my horoscope: The stars foresee a time of great vagueness and something or other in your future. Also, there will be a chair.
Thats damn funny!

There is no place like home!
After a very long and exhausting conference last week, I am so happy to be home. The conference w
as good, but a week was way too long. I was able to catch up with some relatives while I was down there, so that was nice. I was also reminded why I would never live in a big city and why it is that I live up here in the great north. There are people everywhere! The really weir
d part was that there was zero snow. It did start to snow one night, big heavy wet flakes, and on my way back from my uncles house there were cars spun off into the ditch everywhere. Compared to what we have, the roads were in pretty darn good condition. Damn city slickers... When I finally got home I was welcomed by over a foot of snow in my driveway. I love it here!!

I'll be gone for while....
Off I go tomorrow for a week long conference. Basically it will be about forensic nursing and gathering evidence. Oddly enough none of my co-workers are at all interested. There is a whole lot more to the conference than that, so I'm not surprised. Anyways, I'll be some 200 or so miles from home for an entire week. I plan on meeting up with some family and of course exploring. I just have to be more careful in a big city. The hospital is paying for the entire trip, so I'm going to live it up and stay at fancy motels and eat like queen. The worst part of it all is that the conference begins at 730am. Ouch! Sarah does not do mornings well! Guess I'll manage. I shall be back in a week and post a couple of pictures of the big storm we just had. See ya in a week!

The Lack of Blogging....
Obviously I haven't had much to say lately....since Christmas actually. Spent the entire holiday at work. New Years is always a highlight working midnights. We had three victims of bar fights within a hour. Yes, all of them deserved it. And yes, all of them looked like a bunch of sissy's for coming in. Losers.
Anyways, I'm in the middle of reading the book "A Walk in the Woods" about a guy hiking the Appalachian Trail. I've been thinking about doing some type of backpacking/hiking trip since my short trip to the Porcupine Mountains. Well, I think I'm going to attempt the Appalachian Trail this summer. Of course I can easily get swept into the dream of hiking the entire 2,175 miles of it, but in reality I can't. I have responsibilities at home, as minimal as they may be, that won't allow me to run off into the mountains for 7 months. So now I am in the process of finding some good company to go with me. Most everyone I've talked to so far look at me like I'm on crack, which I'm not. The only person I can find is a guy from work who is rather overweight but wanting to lose 100 pounds next summer. He always makes fun of me about hiking, and how stupid he thinks it is. I find it weird that he wants to go. Safety wise, it wouldn't be a bad idea taking someone out there who looks a little more intimidating than me. I think he would do fine, but I want him to get a medical clearance first. Is that rude to ask a person that? So when summer comes, I'm hoping to head out and spend a couple of weeks hidden in the wilderness.
Other that that, I haven't been up to much. I've been out snowshoeing and cross country skiing quite a bit. And than when I'm bored at home I get on the internet and usually end up spending money. Right now I am waiting on a little toy helicopter to arrive at my house. Kid at heart.
Cheers!
